Serving New Canaan since 1933, Francos Wine Merchants offers expert advice on wines and spirits. We offer free local delivery on orders of all sizes. We also are here to assist you with quantities and amounts needed for larger parties/functions. We also accept returns on unused items from your parties.

Francos specializes in fine wine and single malt scotch, bourbon and other spirits. We carry wines from various wine regions throughout the world with a high concentration from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Italy and, of course, the United States.

Free local delivery is available Tuesday–Saturday.

As a business, Francos believes a great wine relationship starts with getting to know you. We take the time to learn your wine and spirit preferences so we can better understand your palate and make personalized recommendations tailored to your tastes.

At Francos, our goal has always been to be an active and engaged part of the New Canaan community, supporting local charities, organizations, and causes whenever possible. As one of the town’s oldest retailers, we have learned over the years that being a successful local business means giving back to the community that has supported us. Reinvesting in New Canaan is an important part of who we are and what it means to be a local retailer.

Carl Franco — Current steward of the family business

Founded by Albert Franco in 1933, Francos Wine Merchants is now run by his nephew, Carl Franco, continuing the family’s service to the New Canaan community.

Questions and answers

What inspired you to start or join the business?

The Franco legacy started in the 1920s during Prohibition when Albert Franco opened a greengrocer on Main Street. Albert was the first business to move to upper Elm Street in the late 1920s, and the day after Prohibition ended he drove up to Hartford to obtain a liquor permit and Francos Wine was born. Since then the store was run by Albert and his brothers, Emil, Louie, and Dick, as well as his sister Lydia. In the 1980s Rick and his sister Anne took over the business, and in the 1990s it was Rick and his brother Carl. Carl Franco is the current steward of the business, which has now been on Elm Street for over 90 years.
